Tascam DP-02 Review

The Tascam DP-02 is an 8 Track Digital Recorder / Portastudio

The DP-02 from Tascam is a great all-in-one home recording studio. Sitting down to write this Tascam DP-02 Review brought back a lot of memories…they've been making multitrack machines for as long as I've been active playing and recording music, and that's a long time!

They made the best reel to reel machines way back when and have been making great digital machines since the 80's. Actually the Tascam 4 track cassette recorder was the one that started it all for me anyway back in the very early 80's.

The DP-02 Tascam is a good choice because…

Not everybody needs a 24 track home studio… if you're more into writing songs and recording just a few instruments this 8 track is a really good choice for that. The DP-02 is Tascam's mid-range multitrack recorder with several 4 track models below it and some 24 track models above it.

You could get one of these and literally be fully set up and ready to go without any other piece of gear… it even has a built-in mic. If you're looking to record a full band with several tracks being recorded at a time this machine won't do it for you… it can only record 2 tracks at once.

This of course is usually more than one person will need, unless you're recording your vocal and guitar at the same time and want it on separate tracks in which case this is exactly what this machine is really meant for.

The DP-02 Tascam has enough effects and EQing built in that you won't need to buy any of that type of outboard gear… of course if you already have some or do want to add it you can.

The built -in hard drive is only 40 gigs but you can either dump files onto your computer's drive or add another one to it so don't worry about that to much.

Quick glance at the key features:
